Choose your means of locomotion.
Are you a keen cyclist? If you like a good climb followed by an exhilarating descent then the topography of our region will suit you fine. Bring you own bike, we have a secure garage, or rent one locally. Keen cyclists greatly appreciate the Ardèche for its winding roads with little traffic. There are several cycling events organised in the region, including the famous Ardéchoise in Spring.
Have you come on a motorbike? We frequently welcome groups of bikers, often coming from other European countries. Sometimes les Vans is a stopping point on a grand tour but is more often a base for touring the Monts d’Ardèche, riding down to Provence, climbing the Mont Ventoux or getting to know the Cévennes.
The British writer Robert Stevenson crossed the Cévennes with his donkey Modestine towards the end of the 19th century. This 200km walk from the Haute Loire to the Gard has become the GR70 and is known as the Stevenson Way. It passes within 30 km of les Vans. However you can remain much closer and enjoy a donkey-back excursion – horse and pony rides are also available.
