You can try it out in complete safety with a qualified guide.

Perhaps you would prefer to visit a bigger cave – you have plenty to choose from in the area.

20 minutes by car from the Carmel, at the boundary of the Ardèche and the Gard departments, the Cocalière  is a spectacular grotto carved in the limestone with numerous galleries and unique geological formations.

The visit lasts about an hour, with a return to base in style on a little train which crosses the garrigue to bring you back to the entrance.

The aven d’Orgnac is probably the most well-known cave in France. Apart from the gigantic underground chambers you will also visit the Prehistoric City where you will learn how flint was carved 350000 years ago. 40 minutes from the Carmel.

The Caverne du Pont d’Arc opened in April 2015 and receives up to 3000 visitors a day ! Don’t forget to reserve your tickets by internet. The caverne is only 25 km from the Carmel. Click here to learn more.
